Frequently Asked Questions
What is matcha powder and how is it different from green tea?
Matcha:
- Matcha is a type of green tea that is finely ground into a vibrant green powder.
- The entire tea leaf is ingested when drinking matcha, resulting in a more concentrated flavor, higher caffeine, and denser nutrient content compared to traditional green tea.
- Matcha typically has a strong flavor unless the quality is extremely fresh and prepared well. Chazoku uses super ceremonial grade to avoid any unpleasant flavor.
Green Tea:
- Green tea is made from dried tea leaves, which are steeped in hot water and then discarded.
- It is available in various forms, such as loose leaves or tea bags.
- The preparation involves steeping the leaves for a short period, typically 1-3 minutes.
- Green tea has a mild, earthy flavor and lower nutrient content than matcha.
Matcha energy vs. energy drinks & coffee
Matcha provides energy differently from coffee and traditional energy drinks due to its unique combination of caffeine and L-theanine. Matcha has a moderate caffeine content, offering a smoother and sustained energy boost without sharp spikes and crashes. The presence of L-theanine promotes alertness and focus while reducing caffeine-related jitters. Additionally, the slow release of caffeine from matcha and its rich nutrient profile contribute to a more balanced and health-conscious energy source compared to the often abrupt and intense effects of coffee and energy drinks.
Is your matcha powder organic?
Our matcha sourced from an award winning estate is not entirely organic. However there are no pesticides, herbacides, or GMO chemicals used in the cultivation of our matcha.
- To control the life cycle of the plant and maintain purity of the matcha, our leaves are grown in a green house.
- Sun exposure is provided to the exact needs of the plant to maintain our flavor profile that avoids any bitterness or aftertaste.
- Most matcha grown in the “organic” fashion are labor intensive and are overly exposed to harsh pollutants that contaminate the matcha leaves.
